The project is continuing in the fundraising efforts - the first signs were installed at the Highway 41 intersection April 23, 2010.  All signs have now been erected.

There are no government monies involved in this process. All funds required for this project come from private sources.

There was a second dedication ceremony at the Veterans appreciation luncheon hosted by Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee on May 28, 2010 at Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo.

This project is being totally funded through private donations to the "Purple Heart Trail Fund," established under the Marine Corps League #680, a non-profit veteran’s organization. Funds have been applied to purchase and install highway signs and to establish a mandated reserve fund for their replacements if/when needed.  Funds will also be used to prepare & distribute special Purple Heart Trail pamphlets to guide visitors to the various veteran venues along this part of the trail (see the Maps page).

Continuing funds raised will be maintained by the Marine Corps League #680 in a Purple Heart Trail account to be used to support worthy veteran-related programs, projects and activities, such as: AmpSurf for amputees, Wounded Warrior Project, scholarships, and financial aid for Veterans.

ARBITER DONATION:

Cathy Baker organized a local group to send packages of various needed items to our troops overseas and called it Arbiter.  Cathy did this after her son was killed in combat a few years ago.  To date Arbiter has sent over 8,000 packages, entirely from local donations.

The Purple Heart Trail fund in conjunction with MCL680 recently made a $200 donation to Cathy's group.
