HISTORIC VETERANS SITES ALONG THE
101 TRAIL:
Camp Roberts, CA on US 101 about 12 miles north of Paso Robles or half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Enter at the main gate off Highway 101 and check in at the MP station for a visitor pass. HOURS OF OPERATION: Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Tours are welcome with prior reservations. The Camp Roberts Historical Museum consists of the Main
Museum, Building 114 (originally the WWII Red Cross Headquarters) and the Museum
Annex, Building 6485 (originally the WWII Post Office). The Museum complex has
about 3,000 line items displayed and stored for future exhibits.
4251 Dry Creek Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446 HOURS: FRI. & SAT.: 10am-4pm, SUN: 12noon-4pm Adopting a name to memorialize the World War II Estrella Army Air Force Base, that which is now Paso Robles Municipal Airport, the Museum was chartered as a not-for-profit California corporation in 1992, and 501(c)3 accreditation soon followed to establish us with the US Departments of Navy and Air Force, as well as the state of California, as an organization approved to receive surplus aircraft and other government properties. Located on the airport proper, the Museum is one of the few "fly-in or drive-in" facilities in the nation, and has over 500 members who rub elbows and enjoy the camaraderie at our monthly dinner meetings. There is a minimal charge for admission to the Museum or its grounds.

The memorial represents: A Marine is on point, protecting those who have gone before him. He’s
joined at the hip with a Desert Storm soldier giving aid. They are followed by
faces emblazoned from all branches of the service going back to World War I. On
the back, an American eagle. The Memorial is always open.
Veterans Memorial Museum Located in
the Veterans Memorial Hall in San Luis Obispo, California Honoring the men and women veterans
of the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines by
treasuring the artifacts they brought back to remember their service to our
country The museum hours are: Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to
3:00 pm (1000 to 1500).
The newly renovated Camp San Luis Obispo Museum and
Visitors Center LOCATION: On Highway 1, Five miles north of San Luis Obispo The Camp San Luis Obispo exhibit site is an outdoor static display area. To the left of the historic main gate is an Army Aviation display area with seven fixed and rotary wing aircraft from the 1950's and 1960's. This area is normally locked, but the key can be obtained from the Range Control office in Building 738 across the street. On the central mall is an a Japanese Type 97b Tankette and an F4 Phantom II Fighter Bomber. There are also examples of sculpture by Italian Prisoners of War that were interned at Camp San Luis Obispo during the Second World War. The latest addition to the mall is the Bataan Memorial that commemorates the 40th Tank Company (later Company C, 194th Tank Battalion) from Salinas that was captured by the Japanese at Bataan in the Philippine Islands. Camp San Luis Obispo is also the home of the California Conservation Corps State Museum which documents the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the present California Conservation Corps.

Vandenberg Air Force Base is headquarters for the 30th Space Wing. The 30th manages Department of Defense space and missile testing, and placing satellites into polar orbit from the West Coast, using expendable boosters. Vandenberg is located on California's "Central Coast". Vandenberg and central California's residents consider the climate mild. The 150 square-mile area between San Francisco and Los Angeles is surrounded by the Santa Ynez mountains, the Pacific, and ranches of northern Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
